It is apparently something that happens when a game tries to utilize more than 2 cores for something, but the system config for that CPU + mobo + BIOS + OS + game doesn't really cooperate. It's definitely more of a concern for servers or workstations that may have 2 or more multi-core processors.īut, naw, the situation that I'm referring to is something that seems to occur on machines that have more than dual-core CPUs. With the rest of the power draw that a serious gaming PC will demand, the few volts that you'll save with, say, 3-4 cores going to sleep is not significant enough to make a difference (.except, as you say, creating potential performance problems).
